Your Choice of Pressure

Your Choice of Pressure

Choosing the right Massage Pressure

Start with what you would like to feel differently when your session is over. Pressure should serve that goal, not become the goal itself.

For stress, mental fatigue, and general tension, light to medium pressure is often deeply beneficial. Swedish and Aromatherapy Massage commonly use flowing strokes and gentler techniques that calm the nervous system while encouraging circulation. You should feel cared for, warm, and able to settle into the table, not as though you need to brace against each stroke.

If you carry regular tightness in the neck, upper back, hips, or legs, medium to firm pressure may be more appropriate. This range gives a therapist room to work gradually through muscle tension while keeping your body relaxed enough to respond. Many people find that a customized Therapeutic Massage offers the right balance when they want focused relief without the intensity of a full deep tissue session.

For chronic muscle tightness, repetitive strain, or post-workout soreness, firmer pressure may be useful. Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage can address deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue with slower, more deliberate work. Still, deeper is not automatically better. Effective deep work is controlled and intentional, not forceful pressure applied everywhere.

Traditional Thai Massage uses a different kind of pressure experience. Rather than relying only on oil-based strokes, it may include assisted stretching, rhythmic compression, and movement that helps restore mobility and balance. It can be energizing and therapeutic for people who feel stiff or compressed from long hours of sitting, but your therapist can adapt the intensity to your flexibility and comfort.
